LOCAL HAWKS NEST ATTRACTIONS

 
You would never believe that only 2 1/2 hours north of the bustle and madness of Sydney, exists a place so tranquil and unspoilt. There is something very special about this little village, surrounded by lakes, rivers and ocean that make you forget any stresses you may have and just relax and enjoy your surroundings.
We are only 70 metre walk to Ocean Beach and 5 minutes from the popular Jimmy's Beach, Port Stephens; great for watching the sunset and a good surfing beach, and always the softest white sand and aquamarine sea we're famous for.

A great way for all ages to enjoy locations

Water Activities

A great way for all ages to enjoy picturesque Port Stephens and the Myall River. Explore the local area and have fun; X-Jet High Performance Jet Boat, catamaran, canoe, sea kayak and surf ski, hire and tuition, are available.

Bushwalking

Hawks Nest has a number of walking trails that can be easily traced from the town to the natural environments of the Myall River, Swan Bay and Myall Lakes National Park. Ask our friendly staff for more information and directions.

4WD

There a various access points for 4WD enthusiasts to explore the local beaches and National Parks on established tracks. Beach permits are required in some instances and these are available from Council Office and Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest Liquor Supply.

Whale Watching

Coinciding with the bi-annual blooming of the Gymea Lillies, an estimated 3,000 whales pass by Port Stephens, travelling to the warm waters of the north in June, then back down south during October. You can witness this incredible spectacle aboard one of the whale watching cruises. Cruises such as Moonshadow cruises offer you the opportunity to witness this ultimate wildlife experience with daily departures from Nelson Bay, Port Stephens.

Dolphin Watch Cruises and Ferry Services

The local dolphin cruises in Port Stephens and the Myall Lakes offer you the unforgettable experience of seeing friendly dolphins at play in their natural environment. Departing at various times throughout the day these cruises are fun and informative, as well as a great way to see more of the beautiful Myall Coast. Ferries, such as Simba and Port Stephens Ferry Services, depart daily from Tea Gardens with one way and return trips to Nelson Bay, starting from 10 am.

Myall Waterways and Port Stephens

Hire a boat, or bring your own and explore the magnificent waterways. The Myall River meanders for 20 kms past fishermen's huts, prawn shots and rainforest to the quaint fishing village of Tamboi, before opening into the Myall Lakes systems.
There are some excellent fishing and picnic spots along the way, and the northern shores of Port Stephens has a multitude of beaches, bays and inlets to explore.

Fishing and Game Fishing

The Myall waterways are a fisherman's paradise - offering river, bay and beach fishing all year round. Join in the thrill of game fishing. Half and full day charters are available, catering for all ages and all levels of experience. Bait, tackle, maps and licences are available through several local businesses.

NSW Game Fish Association Interclub Competition

This is Port Stephens largest fishing competition, with approximately 1100 anglers / 250 boats participating. Held annually over the last weekend in February and the first weekend in March.
